So every once in a while I come across a game that is a great “relax and chill” game. You know the kind of game well. The type where you turn your brain off and just enjoy the gameplay. The latest one that I’ve been playing is Rooftop Renegade.

So what is the game and who is it for? Let’s dive into it.

Rooftop Renegade is a speedrunning side scrolling game where you skate, jump, rail grind, and boost your way to the end of a level as fast as you can. You receive an end of the level grade that is based on how much time it took you and avoiding obstacles.

Gameplay:

The gameplay is similar to what I mentioned before.  You have a series of obstacles in your way that you try to avoid in hopes of getting the fastest time possible. You get a high grade for a fast time. These grades add up to total points that allow you to level up and unlock new levels.

Rooftop Renegade is a fast-paced game with each level only lasting about 2 minutes apiece. The levels are brisk and add more challenges as you progress in the game. Both of these factors help to reduce the sense of staleness and repetition. The gameplay is enjoyable enough that you don’t mind doing basically the same thing over and over again.

The Artstyle:

The artstyle is 2D and looks like game that you’d see in a 1990’s arcade. The rooftop environments are full of neon pops and vibrant colors. I enjoy that there is a clear distinction of colors that lets you know what affect they will have on you as a player. For example, don’t touch anything yellow because it will cause you to slow down and always use the blue infused items to go faster.

Overall/Should You play Rooftop Renegade:

That depends on who you are as a gamer. If you are looking for a relaxing game that will provide you with some fun without any stress then you should check this game out. If you’re looking for a narrative or open world to get lost in then this game isn’t going to be for you. However, if your looking for a stylish speedrunner that has a fun pick-up and play factor to it then Rooftop Renegade is an enjoyable experience that you should check out.
